ResTES 2016/17

The professional development of colleagues involved in learning, teaching, scholarship and research in English for Academic Purposes (EAP) is one of BALEAP’s key aims. As a registered charity, the association works hard to support the professional development of those involved in learning, teaching, scholarship and research in EAP.

The ResTES programme sees scholarship as an umbrella term encompassing a range of activities. At one end of the continuum is research. But there is also a place for modest activities (perhaps in terms of time commitment) which nonetheless deliver significant public contributions to knowledge and understanding. All these endeavors are worthy of public use and scrutiny. Examples include: case studies, exploratory research, narrative accounts, action research.

The ResTES programme is a vehicle for promoting and sustaining transitions from practitioner to scholar/researcher. There is a small fee to attend simply to cover the costs.

The first event in the 2016/17 programme was linked to the theme of the Glasgow PIM, Learner Identity: Managing Transitions, but focussed on EAP practitioners. More information is available here.

The next ResTES event was a symposium in Leeds: ‘Knowledge and the EAP practitioner’, followed by an event focussing on how an EAP practitioner who is presenting at a conference can develop his or her work into a published paper: From Presenting to Publishing: Options for Practitioners.

In 2018, the series is continued with an event on Scholarship in conjunction with the BALEAP AGM. Further events will be announced later. If you have ideas for the content/focus of ResTES events or would like to deliver one, please contact
