Job Details

We are looking for enthusiastic, flexible, UK-based tutors for short online EAP courses. Pre-sessional English Courses are six to twelve weeks in length starting in May 2024. The dates are:
PSE 1: 20 May – 28 June 2024
PSE 2: 1 July – 9 August 2024

The courses are modular and you can work on PSE1, PSE2, or both. We in Herts Aacdemic Skills (HAS) will support you by providing a detailed but flexible syllabus and two days of paid induction. There will also be weekly meetings covering the week ahead, standardisation sessions to get to grips with the assessments, and opportunities for support and development with the HAS team.

You will be employed on the university’s Visiting Lecturer system and there is the opportunity for further work during the academic year.
Duties will include:
• teaching on our online Pre-sessional English course
• weekly assignment marking and feedback
• administering and marking of final examinations
• attendance at induction as well as coordination and standardisation meetings

Candidates should:

• Have TEFLQ status, possessing either ELT Diploma or a master’s degree in a relevant subject
• Have at least three years’ experience teaching EAP or ELT
• Ability to use online meeting platforms such as Microsoft Teams for teaching
• Ability to use a wide range of multimedia systems, tools, and applications, integrating them with your teaching

Successful candidates will either need to be able to work from campus in Hatfield or from their home. If working from home, candidates will need to have a quiet professional space to work from and to supply their own hardware and internet connection with the minimum specifications:
• Windows 10 on 64-bit platform or Mac OS X 10.15
• CPUs newer than 2011 (Intel Sandy Bridge or newer)
• Open GL 2.0 graphics driver
• Local storage of 10GBs
• Web camera and microphone
• Broadband speed 10Gb down 1.5 up

Job Salary & Benefits

Salary – £20.48 per hour (for teaching, preparation, staff meetings, assessments, and all duties required of the post)
Holiday pay 17.66% allowance per hour worked
Includes 2 days of paid induction

Further Information

The successful candidate will be expected to commence in the week commencing 13th May 2024 for PSE1 and week commencing 24th June 2024 for PSE2.

This role will be coordinated from our campus in Hatfield but due to the online nature of the work, all Pre-sessional work can be carried out from anywhere in the UK.
