Duties and Responsibilities
The Centre for Languages & International Education (CLIE) at UCL is looking to appoint a number of well-qualified and experienced Teaching Fellows in English for Academic Purposes for our 12-, 8- and 6-week Pre-sessional courses. Teaching Fellows provide up to 21 hours of teaching per week, which includes classroom teaching, tutorials and other academic activities. They will implement the syllabus by providing quality instruction of the language, knowledge, skills and educational values required for study in higher education, assessing student progress and attainment in these areas, and promoting and directing personal learning through tutorials.

Course dates:
12-week course: 5 June – 6 September 2019
8-week course: 3 July – 6 September 2019
6-week course: 17 July – 6 September 2019

The first three days (detailed above) are a paid induction. Due to the intense, complex nature of the courses, applicants must be available for the entire duration of the course. Contracts are offered on a fixed term basis.

Teaching timetable
Successful candidates will be asked to work on either the morning stream or the afternoon stream. Teaching on the morning stream takes place primarily between 09:00 and 13:00 with tutorials on two afternoons up until 17.00. Teaching on the afternoon stream takes places primarily between 13.30 and 17:30 with tutorials on two mornings from 10:00 am.

Key Requirements
Successful candidates will hold a recognised postgraduate teaching qualification such as the DELTA and ideally be educated to the MA/MSc level. They will have evidence of teaching English for Academic Purposes, preferably in the UK, and of providing academic and pastoral support to students. Successful candidates will have outstanding teaching skills and demonstrate an ability to situate communicative language teaching within an academic context. They will also have excellent organisational skills, with the ability to plan, manage preparation and marking time effectively, and balance competing pressures.
