An exciting opportunity has arisen within the University’s Skills Centre for a part-time (0.6 fte/21.9 hours per week) Teaching Fellow in English for Academic Purposes to support a range of new digital developments as part of the Centre’s work to seek new ways of embedding academic and language skills within the curriculum. Established for over 25 years, the Centre is responsible for the delivery of a wide range of academic and language skills to students at all levels and requires this post to join its existing teaching team to work on its Pre-sessional and academic skills programme for home and international students. Teaching responsibilities will include the delivery of lectures, seminars, workshops and tutorials together with the development of new teaching materials, with a specific focus on the adoption and development of new and existing learning technologies to enhance student-centred learning.

Applicants should hold a first degree and a postgraduate qualification related to English language teaching or equivalent, for example, Diploma in English language teaching, MA in Applied Linguistics, TESOL or equivalent combination of experience and study, DELTA (or equivalent diploma in EFL) and/or an MA Applied Linguistics (or similar). This should be further supported by proven knowledge and experience of teaching English for Academic Purposes in a higher education context, ideally native and non-native speakers.

The post-holder must be a strong team player, able to work on his/her own initiative within a dynamic and demanding environment. A track record in the delivery of a high quality student learning experience is essential, as is evidence of experience in the development of digital resources and/or online courses to support academic and language skills for students within higher education. The ability and experience to design, lead and manage educational development projects will be of particular benefit in this role.

The successful applicant will have the benefit of joining a thriving and highly successful Skills Centre, comprising 60 staff, supporting the University community in designing and delivering skills development opportunities to home and international students, and working with academic and other Professional Services colleagues across its campus.

This is a fixed term post with a duration of up to one year.
