We are looking for enthusiastic and dedicated EAP practitioners to teach on our BALEAP-accredited pre-sessional programme in summer 2021. Contracts of 7 weeks (19th July to 3rd September) are available, with the possibility of a small number of 11 week contracts (21st June to 3rd September).

The 7- week contract will include an online induction from 19th to 23rd July and the 11-week contract will include an online induction from 21st to 25th June.

Phase 1 (4-week Essential English for Academic Purposes). The course will be taught online from 28th June to 23rd July 2021. There is no expectation or requirement that teaching staff be resident in Edinburgh during this period.

Phase 2 (6-week discipline-specific English language courses). It is our intention to transition to in-person delivery in Edinburgh for the teaching period of 26th July to 3rd September 2021 and teaching staff will be required to be resident within commuting distance of campus during this period. This decision will be taken in line with government guidelines.

The Opportunity:
As a 7- or 11-week EAP Pre-sessional Teaching Fellow you will use English Language Education’s (ELE) in-house materials to teach and provide formative and summative feedback to students on the University of Edinburgh’s Pre-Sessional Programme as they prepare for postgraduate study at the University. You will be a committed EAP teacher and keen to embrace reflective practice, professional development and collegiality.

You will be joining an experienced teaching and professional services team at this leading Russell Group university, as we launch our exciting new-look pre-sessional programme and prepare our highly-motivated students for their studies at the University of Edinburgh.

Your skills and attributes for success:

first degree and/or significant experience and standing in a professional, practice-based background relevant to the subject area

relevant Master’s Degree (or equivalent) or currently engaged in related post-graduate study

relevant language teaching qualification and demonstrable teaching experience, to include 2 years within a Higher Education Institution in areas including UK Pre-Sessionals

up-to-date knowledge of current theory and practice in teaching, learning, course/materials design and assessment in the subject area

excellent IT skills and evidence of supporting the integration of technologies into learning, teaching and scholarship

Job Salary & Benefits

The role is Grade 7 and attracts an annual salary of £33,797 to £40,322 for 35 hours, each week. Salary is paid monthly by direct transfer to your Bank or Building Society account, normally on the 28th of the month.
EAP Teaching Fellows will benefit from a generous accommodation package for the duration of Phase 2 on campus teaching period. Eligibility is decided on a case-by-case basis and further information regarding accommodation will be available if selected for interview.
