About the Role:
The University of Kent is seeking to appoint an EAP Tutor to teach on the BALEAP-accredited 10 Week Pre-sessional English for Academic Purposes (in-person). In line with the Teacher Competencies Framework, as described by BALEAP, tutors will be responsible for facilitating students’ acquisition of the language, skills and strategies required for studying in a Higher Education context, and to support students’ understanding of approaches to interpreting and responding to the requirements of academic tasks and their related processes.
Teachers will be involved in all aspects of Pre-Sessional provision, including the planning and delivery of classes and student feedback. Teachers will be expected to spend 20-hours per week teaching and providing student tutorials, plus attend weekly staff meetings and scheduled development sessions. All teachers will take part in a formal observation and peer observations. Teachers must commit for the entire duration of the course.

About You:
Essential: A first degree (any discipline) and a recognised CELTA (or equivalent).
Desirable: A DELTA (or equivalent), and/or a Master’s degree in a related subject (e.g. TESOL, Applied Linguistics) is highly desirable.

You should have significant experience in EFL and/or EAP with experience of developing/adapting teaching materials to ensure alignment with programme learning outcomes (teaching materials will be provided). You should have experience of conducting, marking and moderating formative and summative assessments, providing high quality feedback and have the ability to complete teaching related administrative tasks, accurately and efficiently.
You must be competent and confident in your use of ICT and learning technologies. You will be using Moodle as the VLE.

Course Dates:
10 Week Teacher induction: Thurs 15th and Friday 16th June 2023
10 Week Student Induction: Mon 19th June 2023
10 Week Contract ends: Fri 25th August 2023
(Note: accrued holiday leave is taken after the course is finished)

Job Salary & Benefits

Assistant Lecturer (Grade 7)
34,189 – 39,609 Pro Rata
Accommodation on campus (ensuite) is available for teachers at a reduced rate and payable to the Accommodation Services Department. Teachers are welcome to join the students on social trips exploring Canterbury and surrounding areas, and join in with student activities on campus if they wish.
