Fixed term teaching positions on our 2020 Pre-Sessional Courses (Online). Applicants must have the following pre-requisites
- a laptop/PC; a webcam and headphones
- a stable internet connection
- internet speeds with a minimum bandwidth of 600kbps (up/down) with a recommended speed of 1.5 Mbps (up/down) Please test your internet speeds at this site: https://www.speedtest.net/
- Availability for virtual student contact between 8am and 1pm Mon- Fri UK time to include Interactive sessions and tutorials, responding to students questions via email and module chat. Availability for virtual meetings 8am-5pm Mon- Fri UK time; and a place to participate in these things without other household members.

Main Duties
- teaching English for Academic Purposes as part of a collegiate course team. This includes: online lesson preparation and delivery (Zoom) , use of our VLE (Canvas), providing targeted and constructive student feedback, marking, both pastoral and academic tutorial support (Zoom and OneNote); and upholding the standards of our pre-sessional courses
- participation in the online teacher induction programme, staff meetings and other events as required
- monitoring student engagement, accurate and timely record keeping

- excellent teaching skills including an excellent ability to adapt to the needs of students within the course parameters, and to engage students in order to deepen learning
- a CELTA (or equivalent with substantial TEFL component)
- a minimum of 2 years recent English language teaching experience- preferably some in English for Academic Purposes
- the ability to cheerfully adapt to the requirements of our course- particularly this year
- the ability to work collaboratively and independently to achieve course aims
- the ability to consistently produce high quality work within tight deadlines
- the ability to maintain high professional standards and a positive outlook throughout the course
- experience of teaching multilingual classes
- awareness of current UK Higher Education teaching and learning conventions
- knowledge of the academic and pastoral needs of international students on a pre-sessional course
- a good level of IT literacy, routine use of basic educational technology: word processing, email, VLE (Canvas) etc. for materials adaptation, blended learning and routine record keeping tasks; some experience with Zoom (or similar)
Desirable
- recent experience of teaching EAP to groups of students from mixed disciplines.
- recent experience of teaching on UK higher education pre-sessional courses
- DELTA (or equivalent with substantial TEFL component)
- Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics or related subject (preferred); or in any other subject
- Experience of teaching English to art and design students
- Experience of teaching online
Job Salary & Benefits
Pre-Sessional EAP tutors are employed as Hourly Paid Lecturers. Weekly schedules vary but over the entire course we expect to offer the following hours for each full course:
- Long Course: 485 hours across the course: this includes induction and weekly teachers’ meetings. On top of this, an extra fee for marking will be paid 3 times at a rate of 1 hour per student.
- Medium Course: 360 hours across the course: this includes induction and weekly teachers’ meetings. On top of this, an extra fee for marking will be paid twice at a rate of 1 hour per student.
- Short Course: 204 hours across the course: this includes induction and weekly teachers’ meetings. On top of this, an extra fee for marking will be paid once at a rate of 1 hour per student.
Standard Kingston rates of pay apply and currently start at £23.80 per hour which includes London weighting, and holiday pay.
** Please note: despite reduced contact hours on our online course, we are paying the same as for the face to face course as the course involves more marking and administrative work.
