The English Language Centre at University of Galway are recruiting English language teachers to deliver their Pre-sessional English for Academic Purposes (EAP) summer courses which run from May – August and our in-sessional language development options during the academic year. These course are delivered on campus and online. Applicants are required to have appropriate qualifications and experience in teaching English for Academic Purposes (EAP) and academic skills in a higher education context

Responsibilities include:

Teaching across a range of programmes delivered by the English Language Centre with a standard pattern of 15 hours per week
Ensure that lessons are well-planned and have clearly communicated learning outcomes
Ensure formative and summative assessment relates to criteria which is understood by the students, and that feedback is timely and leads to progression
Support and provide guidance to students to help them meet their academic goals
Maintain agreed quality standards in teaching in accordance with university policies
Engage in course reviews, reporting as required and general departmental duties
Undertake assigned specific tasks during non-teaching weeks, if required
Contribute to the development of a positive institutional ethos that values high quality EAP teaching and effective learning
Engage in a collegiate approach to working with others within the university and the wider external community
Qualifications & Experience required for this post

Essential

Level 8 degree in any recognised academic discipline
QQI recognised EFL qualification
Experience and expertise in teaching pre-sessional EAP programmes in higher education
Experience of online delivery of EAP programmes
Appropriate experience and expertise to teach the courses delivered by the English Language Centre
Experience of management and administration of courses and related work
Demonstrated ability and willingness to use available technologies, teaching resources and support available, including Blackboard and library services.
Evidence of effective collegiality and teamwork
Excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills
Demonstrate effectiveness in developing and maintaining partnerships
Evidence of strong attention to detail and experience of working to and delivering on deadlines
Desirable Requirements

Qualifications in Teaching English for Academic Purposes (EAP), or other relevant area, or DELTA certified.

Job Salary & Benefits

€35 per hour
