Job Details

The Language Centre is looking to appoint experienced EAP Associate Lecturers to teach on the Pre-Sessional Programme over the summer for the following course(s):

Pre-Sessional Course A, 18 June – 12 September 2018 (13 weeks, covers teaching for courses A, B and C). The post-holder will be required to undertake 18 contact hours per week.
Pre-Sessional Course B, 16 July – 12 September 2018 (9 weeks, covers teaching for courses B and C). The post-holder will be required to undertake 18 contact hours per week.
Pre-Sessional Course C, 13 August – 12 September 2018 (5 weeks). The post-holder will be required to undertake 18 contact hours per week.
Pre-Sessional in Mexico Course 02 July – 24 August 2018 (8 weeks). The post-holder will be required to undertake 18 contact hours per week.
Each course and pay includes a mandatory induction over four days (18 hours) from Tuesday to Friday (inclusive) in the week preceding each course.

There may be the possibility of further work at the end of the initial contract period.
Applicants should have a relevant postgraduate degree and/or relevant professional qualification (e.g. DELTA) and/or equivalent professional experience as well as prior experience of teaching Pre-Sessional or EAP courses in a Higher Education context.

Essential Qualifications
-Undergraduate honours degree or equivalent
-Level 7 qualification: DELTA and/or Master’s degree in ELT, Applied Linguistics or
Education, or other relevant subject.
-Qualification in the teaching of English as an additional language to adults: (CELTA or equivalent TEFLQ qualification)

Main duties & responsibilities of the role are:
1. Design and prepare teaching materials for designated courses or modules, ensuring that file copies are made available to staff in appropriate forms.

2. Organise and undertake teaching in the Language Centre as agreed with the Line Manager/Programme Convenors; this includes providing classes, workshops, and one-to-one tutorials in a variety of combinations.

3. Carry out student assessment (where applicable) including setting and marking coursework as appropriate; attending examiners’ meetings as required.

4. Supervise / co-operate with other teaching support staff as may be required.

5. Contribute an average of 18 hours of teaching per week or hours agreed with the Language Centre management.

6. Attend Language Centre and programme/module/cluster/ team meetings as required as well other relevant College meetings and boards, as agreed with the Chair/Director of the Language Centre.

7. Complete administrative tasks related to teaching, such as administering course evaluation questionnaires, completing student progress reports, monitoring student attendance in classes, and taking in/returning coursework.

8. Comply with relevant College policies and regulations regarding financial matters, harassment, equal opportunities, public interest disclosure, health and safety, intellectual property, data protection or any other rules, regulations or codes binding on the member of staff.

9. Participate in the College Appraisal Scheme (QMPAS) and demonstrate a commitment to continuing professional development.

10. Attend, as appropriate, courses and seminars offered by the College in connection with professional development.

11. Undertake scholarship activities, including relevant induction courses.

12. Undertake such other reasonable duties as may be required by the Line Manager/Chair/Director of the Language Centre from time to time.

Job Salary & Benefits

The salary will range from £4,134 to £9,914, inclusive of holiday pay (equivalent to £36,677 pro rata) and includes, preparation time, induction, admin/office hours and marking.

The salary will be £9,914, inclusive of holiday pay (equivalent to £36,677 pro rata) and includes, preparation time, induction, admin/office hours and marking.

Pre-Sessional Course B, 16 July – 12 September 2018 (9 weeks, covers teaching for courses B and C). The post-holder will be required to undertake 18 contact hours per week. The salary will be £7,114, inclusive of holiday pay (equivalent to £36,677 pro rata) and includes, preparation time, induction, admin/office hours and marking.

Pre-Sessional Course C, 13 August – 12 September 2018 (5 weeks). The post-holder will be required to undertake 18 contact hours per week. The salary will be £4,314, inclusive of holiday pay (equivalent to £36,677 pro rata) and includes, preparation time, induction, admin/office hours and marking.

Each course and pay includes a mandatory induction over four days (18 hours) from Tuesday to Friday (inclusive) in the week preceding each course.

Pre-Sessional in Mexico Course 02 July – 24 August 2018 (8 weeks). Induction on 25-27 June 2018 in London and fly out on 28 June 2018. Mexico sites are Sinaloa and Chihuahua. The post-holder will be required to undertake 18 contact hours per week. The salary will be £6,813, inclusive of holiday pay (equivalent to £36,677 pro rata) and includes, preparation time, admin/office hours, marking,and an additional 35 hours for induction and travel remuneration.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme. Please note a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance may be required.
