Fixed term teaching positions on our 2017 Pre-sessional Courses
Tutor Induction Course dates
Medium course 21-23 June 26 Jun – 8 Sep 2017
Short course 26-28 July 31 Jul – 8 Sep 2017

Main Duties
• teaching English for Academic Purposes (EAP) as part of a collegiate course team. This includes: lesson preparation and delivery, use of our VLE, providing targeted and constructive student feedback, marking, both pastoral and academic tutorial support; and upholding the standards of our pre-sessional courses
• participation in the teacher induction programme, staff meetings and other events as required
• accurate and timely record keeping
Essential
• excellent teaching skills
• a CELTA and DELTA (or equivalents with substantial TEFL component)
• a minimum of 2 years recent English language teaching experience- preferably in EAP
• the flexibility to adapt to the requirements of our course
• the ability to work collaboratively and independently to achieve course aims
• the ability to consistently produce high quality work within tight deadlines
• the ability to maintain high professional standards and a positive outlook throughout the course
• a good level of IT literacy: routine use of basic educational technology: word processing, email, VLE (Canvas) etc. for materials adaptation, blended learning and routine record keeping tasks
• experience of teaching multilingual classes
• awareness of current UK Higher Education teaching and learning conventions
• knowledge of the academic and pastoral needs of international students on a pre-sessional course
Desirable
• recent experience of teaching EAP to groups of students from mixed disciplines.
• masters degree in Applied Linguistics or related subject (preferred); or in any other subject
• recent experience of teaching on UK higher education pre-sessional courses

Job Salary & Benefits

Pre-Sessional EAP tutors are employed as Hourly Paid Lecturers. Weekly schedules vary but over the entire course we expect to offer the following hours for each full course:
• Medium Course: 164 teaching hours, 101 non-teaching hours
• Short Course: 78 teaching hours, 59 non-teaching hours.

Hourly rates vary according to qualifications but range between £39.42- £42.84 (factored teaching hours) and £22.53- £24.48 (factored non-teaching hours). These rates include London weighting and holiday pay. Additional payments will also be made at set times for marking, moderation and student feedback – these relate to assessment type and student numbers.
