Job Details

The English Language Centre (ELC) at King’s College London is looking for suitably qualified and experienced EAP tutors for 20, 15, 10 and 5 week Pre-sessional programmes.

Main Duties:

Teaching and Learning
• Teach up to a maximum of 20 hours per week
• Complete all tasks associated with teaching: lesson preparation, setting and marking of homework
• Monitor student attendance and progress throughout the course and provide relevant feedback to the course coordinator as required
• Attend key evening social events (a maximum of 2 per stage)

Course Assessment
• Complete all standardisation tasks as directed by the course coordinator
• Complete all assessment marking and moderation tasks as directed by the course coordinator

Quality Assurance
• Attend the pre-course induction
• Attend and participate in weekly course meetings and staff development sessions

Staff Development
• Develop awareness of, and keep up-to-date with, teaching and learning resources available in the Language Centre Open Learning Centre (OLC) and on the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).
• Participate in, and meet the requirements of, the ELC observation scheme

Administrative Duties
• Maintain clear and effective records on registers and records of work as required by the course coordinator
• Write end-of-course student reports as required by the course coordinator

Essential Requirements:
• A first degree
• Experience of teaching EAP, preferably in a university setting
• Experience of teaching on intensive Pre-sessional programmes
• The ability to work effectively under pressure
• The ability to work effectively in a large teaching team
• A Delta or accepted equivalent and/or
• A Master’s degree preferably in Applied Linguistics/ELT.

Job Salary & Benefits

The salary will be paid on a range of £38,188 to £45,004 per annum (pro-rata), this is inclusive of London Allowance and paid holiday time in lieu of annual leave.

This brings the total package to:
20 week: £15,148 – £17,852 (inclusive of London Allowance and Holiday Pay)*
15 week: £11,766 – £13,866 (inclusive of London Allowance and Holiday Pay)*
10 week: £8,677 – £10,226 (inclusive of London Allowance and Holiday Pay)*
5 week: £4,853 – £5,719 (inclusive of London Allowance and Holiday Pay)*

The salary will be dependent on qualifications and experience.

* Please note that the Pre-sessional courses are titled 20-week/15-week/10-week/5-week as this covers this is the amount of contact weeks the students are offered. The actual length of the teaching contract will be longer than this – see the dates advertised below for exact details.
