The role

The Head of Presessional Programmes is responsible for the academic development and day to day delivery of the Presessional Programme including Exam Preparation Intensive Courses. This includes academic management and standards; communication and administration; student assessment, and staff induction, appraisal and development.

The post-holder is a member of the Language Centre academic management team led by the Associate Dean of International Student Experience (ADISE) and actively contributes to the enhancement, monitoring and review of the quality of learning and teaching and student progress.

Presessional is a profit-making programme which includes Exam Preparation Intensive Courses (EPIC). The programme currently works with around 720 students with conditional and unconditional UAL main course offers every year. Presessional is British Council and BALEAP accredited.

Presessional and English & Arts programmes in the Language Centre form part of Academic Enterprise, which leads the University’s enterprise driven income operations and is integral to the University’s long term development. Academic Enterprise’s mission is to increase the amount of income generated by the University from non-core teaching and research activities. As well as the Language Centre it includes a number of successful existing business operations: UAL Short Courses Ltd (UALSC), the UAL Awarding Body and the University’s Study Abroad programme.

Your profile

With a first degree, MA in Linguistics and DELTA or equivalent, you will be an experienced ELT manager. You will have practical and theoretical knowledge of ELT and EAP, EAP assessment, current issues and developments in ELT and EAP as well as knowledge of British Council and BALEAP accreditation schemes.

You will have excellent communication, planning, resource management and teamworking skills; strong motivational and leadership abilities, and a dedication to advancing professional practice and research and to developing learning. You use your initiative and creativity to solve problems and are fully committed to improving student inclusion and experience.

Job Salary & Benefits

£46,423 per annum starting salary, competitive pension scheme and excellent benefit package.
