English Language Education at the University of Edinburgh’s Centre for Open learning is inviting applications for the post of Head of English Language for the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine (CMVM) and the College of Science and Engineering (CSE). We are seeking an exceptional candidate to lead the coordination and management of EAP provision for these Colleges, across both our in-sessional and pre-sessional activities. Supporting the Director of English Language Education, and working closely with the Head of English Language for the College of Arts, Humanities & Social Science, and the Head of Teacher Development and Scholarship, the Head of English Language for CSE and CMVM plays a leading role in the strategic direction of provision and promoting the subject area throughout the Centre, College and University.

The post holder will support the Director of English Language Education (ELE) in the leadership, management and coordination of English Language provision, primarily for the Colleges of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine, and Science and Engineering (hereafter referred to as the subject area). The post holder will line manage colleagues as assigned by the Director of ELE. Leading by example, the post holder will contribute to learning, teaching and scholarship and will be expected to teach themselves wherever appropriate.

Working in partnership with senior colleagues, the post holder will have overall academic responsibility for course planning, approval and validation of subject area provision across the year. The post holder will also have specific responsibility for promoting their subject area throughout the Centre, College and University, contributing to the strategic direction of the provision, academic communities of practice and all matters in support of excellent learning, teaching and scholarship. COL programmes are student-centred and so it is expected that the post holder is cognisant of the student voice and that which supports their studies.

Job Salary & Benefits

The role is grade UE08 and attracts an annual salary of £41,526 to £49,553 for 35 hours, each week. Salary is paid monthly by direct transfer to your Bank or Building Society account, normally on the 28th of the month.
