Job Details

We are looking for English Language Tutors for 3-week Summer Course in English language and culture/University Experience : 15 July – 2 August 2024 (with the possibility of a further 3-week extension on other UCL CLIE courses).

Hours: 30 hours per week (15 hours teaching plus 15 hours teaching preparation plus a further 10 hours for marking/report writing: course materials as provided)

Department: Centre for Languages and International Education (CLIE)

Reports to: Course Co-ordinator

Teaching: In class (F2F)

Job description

Teaching and Learning
• Teach 15 hours per week from 10.00-13.00, Monday-Friday
• Complete all tasks associated with teaching: lesson preparation, setting and marking a short assignment and presentation, and maintaining teaching records (15 hours a week + 10 hours marking/report writing)
• Monitor student attendance and progress throughout the course and provide relevant feedback to the Course Co-ordinator and Senior Tutor

Course Assessment
• Complete assessment marking ( 1 short written assignment + 1 short presentation per student) as directed by the Course Co-ordinator

Meetings
• Attend the pre-course induction meeting (paid as 2 hours)
• Attend and participate in weekly course meetings (paid as 1 hour per meeting)

Administrative Duties
• Maintain clear and effective records on registers and records of work as required by the Course Co-ordinator
• Write short end-of-course student reports as required by the Course
Co-ordinator

Person Specification:

Essential
• Cambridge ESOL Delta or Trinity Dip TESOL qualified (or equivalent)
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Reliability in timely and accurate completion of administrative tasks
• Ability to provide effective feedback on students’ communication skills
in English
• Ability to advise students on their individual study needs
• Ability to write clear and accurate progress reports

Desirable
• Experience in using a Virtual Learning Environment e.g. Moodle
• Experience of teaching in a Higher Education environment
• Ability to work and engage with students, materials and tasks from different subject areas

Job Salary & Benefits

Paid hourly at a rate of £24.55/h including London allowance and holiday pay (equivalent to Grade 7 spine point 34).
