Job Details

We are recruiting for an exceptional individual to join us as a Tutor in English for Academic Purposes within our English for International Students unit, to support staff in the delivery of English Language teaching programmes as part of the Dundee International Institute, based in Changsha, China. The successful postholder will spend two semesters working in China and be based in Dundee for the remainder of the year.

Working as part of a team teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate international students from a variety of backgrounds embarking on degree programmes in a wide range of disciplines, the post holder will teach general language points in addition to specifically academic applications of the language. Staff may be required to provide pastoral support to students requiring it, uphold the university’s policy on data security and undertake other additional duties from time to time as necessary. Please note that for at least half the year, the successful applicants will be working in China.

Your priorities will include:
To work as part of a team teaching undergraduate and postgraduate international students from a variety of backgrounds embarking on degree programmes in a wide range of disciplines.
To follow a discourse-based approach in helping students develop academic language and skills through the understanding and creation of written and spoken texts.
To prepare lessons, maintain teaching records, assess students’ work, invigilate exams, provide feedback to students, and participate in cultural and educational events, induction events and in assessment and team meetings.
To actively participate in CPD activities throughout the year to maintain and develop awareness of advances in the field of EAP.
To provide pastoral support to students.
Who we’re looking for:
Postgraduate Degree with relevant professional qualifications e.g. DELTA or equivalent
Recent experience in an English for Academic Purposes teaching role, in a higher educational institution, with evidence of meeting and exceeding objectives and targets.
Experience of team teaching to specific objectives.
Evidence of ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders, utilising high levels of cultural sensitivity and diplomacy.

Willingness to travel to deliver UoD programmes at partner institutions.

Job Salary & Benefits

Grade 7 (£33,309 – £40,927)
