The role
English Language Teaching (ELT) at University of St Andrews is seeking an EAP Tutor to teach on its International Foundation Year programmes this summer. This will involve teaching EAP to multinational groups of students at university level. In addition, there may be the opportunity to contribute in a limited capacity to other courses run by ELT over the summer.

This is a temporary role, starting on Thursday 7th June and running until Wednesday 15th August. During this period, the successful candidate will be expected to deliver up to 20 contact hours per week, and to attend teaching-related meetings as required.

Position requirements
We are seeking applicants with the following qualifications, experience and attributes:
Essential
• Educated to degree level
• In possession of a relevant teaching qualification
• Three years of relevant teaching experience
• Willingness to learn and develop
• Ability to work successfully as part of a team
Desirable
• Master’s degree in a relevant area
• Significant university-level teaching experience

Compensation and benefits
The successful candidate will be paid £32,548 pro rata. Competitively priced university accommodation is available to rent if required.

Main Purpose of Role

• delivering a variety of courses to students in ELT in an engaging, motivating and student-
centred manner, using teaching material provided by the relevant Programme Director

• writing and developing teaching materials, as required, in accordance with the stated learning aims and outcomes of the given programme

• setting and marking assessments for coursework and examinations as required, and respecting deadlines for preparation and production of test/examination papers, delivery of assessments
and turnaround of marking

• keeping comprehensive records of work and attendance records and providing the
Programme Director with weekly updates on both

• liaising effectively, efficiently and regularly with the relevant Programme Director, other ELT Teaching Fellows and subject specialist tutors, providing information on any student issues

• providing students with high quality feedback on coursework and examinations within
standard specified timeframes

Key Duties and Responsibilities
• teaching up to 20 hours per week on ELT programmes (the exact number of hours
p.w. could fluctuate over the length of the contract)
• provide copies of records of work and any supplementary material used
• contributing to the development of materials for use by the students and potentially others
within ELT through the University’s VLE (Moodle/MMS)
• setting, invigilating and marking examinations in line with published programme
handbook if asked to do so by the Programme Director
• attending staff meetings, standardisation meetings, moderation meetings, examination boards
and staff training as required
• working flexibly and collaboratively as part of a team
• responding in a timely fashion to student requests for help or advice on programme-related questions
• providing supporting materials, on Moodle/MMS, (handouts, Powerpoints etc) for each class taught, if appropriate
• agreeing to participate in lesson observations and feedback
• any other duties, including administrative duties, as required by the Director and/or the Deputy Director of ELT that are commensurate with the pay
