Heriot-Watt University has established a reputation for world-class teaching and leading-edge, relevant research, which has made it one of the top UK universities for innovation, business and industry.

Heriot-Watt University has five campuses: three in the UK (Edinburgh, Scottish Borders and Orkney), one in Dubai and one in Malaysia. The University offers a highly distinctive range of degree programmes in the specialist areas of science, engineering, design, business and languages.

Heriot-Watt is also Scotland’s most international university, boasting the largest international student cohort.

About our Team
The International Student Recruitment team is tasked with developing and implementing the University’s international student recruitment strategy. Focusing on ambitious targets for growth in student numbers, the team promotes Heriot-Watt University to prospective students, parents, agents, academic partners and other key stakeholders.

The keystone of our EAP provision is the Pre-sessional English Programme. Delivered by the Academic English team, the PSE plays a crucial role in helping the University to achieve its ambitious growth targets by increasing the number of entry routes, supporting international partnerships and widening access.

Detailed Description
Our BALEAP accredited pre-sessional programmes develop students’ language and study competence to enable them to perform well on their chosen degree programmes. These programmes have recently been revamped to ensure that they meet the learning needs of our international students as they transition from their previous academic context into their chosen Heriot-Watt programme.

The Heriot-Watt Pre-sessional programme comprises four modules of between 4 and 6 weeks in length. The number of modules students are required to take is determined by the students’ language level. Modules 1 to 3 are designed to develop the students’ Academic English and study skills, while module 4 focuses on developing students’ understanding of Research and Scholarship in relation to English-medium tertiary studies.

In 2022, the University is partnering with ES Dubai to deliver a Pre-sessional English pathway at the state-of-the art Heriot-Watt campus in Dubai. The early modules will be delivered by ES Dubai, while the final 6-week assessment module of the programme will be delivered in-house. The 6-week assessment module (module 4) focuses on developing students’ understanding of Research and Scholarship in relation to English-medium tertiary studies.

When the PSE is not in session, the EAP tutor will deliver other English language and academic skills support, including the Heriot-Watt Introductory Academic Programme.

We are seeking motivated, independent individuals who can deliver high quality EAP teaching and academic skills support and can facilitate an excellent student experience.
