Job Details

We are looking to recruit class teachers for our Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses. For recruitment purposes, class teachers should have TEFLQ status as outlined in the British Council guidelines. This means having a full DELTA or Trinity Diploma or equivalent (see link below to the British Council handbook for a more detailed description of categories). We are also looking to recruit Language Support Tutors (LSTs) to provide additional classes to students who need extra support. For this post, we can accept applicants with TEFLI status (CELTA, Trinity Cert. etc).

Positions are available on 10, 6 and 4 week programmes.
Person Specification:
• A Masters in a TEFL-related area and/or
• A Masters in a TEFL-related area and/or
• A diploma in English teaching/ PGCE with substantial TEFL component, or diploma-level qualifications as defined in section 4.2 of the British Council’s Accreditation UK handbook

• Relevant teaching experience, ideally in EAP at tertiary level.
• In-depth knowledge and understanding of the UK higher education system.
• Clear and effective written and oral presentation skills
• A clear understanding of the aims of the course
• The ability to correctly diagnose and give feedback on learner errors in academic English
• Experience of safeguarding the welfare of students.

Please note that because the EAP UG course is open to students under the age of 18, the University of Birmingham has a responsibility to:
• Follow up all references
• Seek explanation regarding all gaps in CVs
• Acquire proof of identity and all qualifications
• Ask referees whether there is any reason why the employee should not be employed in situations where they have responsibility for, or substantial access to, persons under 18
• Ask all applicants for a background disclosure check by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) before any appointment can be confirmed. Applicants based overseas will be required to supply evidence of an equivalent check from their country of residence.

Job Salary & Benefits

Salary is from £29,301 to £38,183 a year.

The course dates are:
10 week – 10 July 2017 – 15 September 2017
6 week – 7 August 2017 – 15 September 2017
4 week – 21 August 2017 – 15 September 2017
