Job Details

The International Study and Language Institute (ISLI) at the University of Reading provides English for Academic Purposes (EAP) and academic literacy and study skills development through a wide range of courses and activities. Programmes are delivered both on the UK campus and overseas in the University of Reading Malaysia and at Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology (NUIST) Reading Academy. The creation of assessments that are aligned with programme outcomes is a key aspect of our ongoing programme development and ISLI has a dedicated team working on tests and other forms of assessment.

The Director of Assessment has the following areas of responsibility:

leading the testing team creating, administering and providing statistical analysis of a wide range of tests at undergraduate and postgraduate level in support of programmes delivered within ISLI, and for partnership and consultancies delivered both nationally and overseas;
developing new profile-raising offshore opportunities in relation to testing and assessment;
teaching English for Academic Purposes classes in proportion to the other responsibilities of the role.

Additionally there are opportunities (subject to workload) for:

co-ordinating a particular skills/language component of the Pre-sessional English programme as required;
course directing on the Pre-sessional programme as required.

You will have the ability to:

lead, manage and develop teaching/testing teams and support individual staff;
oversee large-scale test development and administration;
seek out and develop external assessment opportunities;
design assessment tasks and write test items;
apply statistical analysis methods and applications;
teach English for Academic Purposes to students from a range of levels and nationalities.

Job Salary & Benefits

Salary: £41,526 – £51,034 per annum
