We have an exciting opportunity for a new Director to lead the English Language Faculty within the Centre for English Academic Studies (CEAS) at the Surrey International Institute at Dongbei University of Finance & Economics (SII-DUFE).

The role:
This is a senior academic leadership role to lead the programme for English for Special Academic Purposes (ESAP). Reporting into the Dean (Operations) at SII, with a secondary reporting line to the Associate Dean, DUFE. As Director you will have the opportunity to lead the delivery of the faculty staff, maintaining the integrity of the Curriculum and the achievement of Institute targets. You will lead on the planning of the programme, working closely with the Registry Office and HR. Your team is made up of between 20 to 30 specialist lecturers in English Language for academic students who are delivering 10 modules to a first year foundation intake of 380 students. This is a key programme as successful completion of this foundation year is crucial for the student intake as it serves as recognition of the required IELTS equivalent to progress; as such, your leadership and direction will be critical to this programme. You will work closely with both Chinese partners and University of Surrey colleagues based in Dalian, China.

About you:
You will have established leadership skills, used to working on your own initiative with the ability to navigate complexity and opposing agendas. You will have familiarity with the UK quality assurance requirements and ideally experience of working with TNE programmes in an international environment, preferably China. Experience in ESAP Curriculum Design would also be helpful. All applicants should have proven leadership experiences at recognised universities and hold relevant qualifications at the undergraduate and master levels in TESOL / ELT / TEFL / Applied Linguistics and other relevant qualifications at the undergraduate and master levels and a doctorate qualification in a relevant discipline area is desirable.

About Surrey International Institute at Dongbei:
SII is a Joint Sino-Foreign Cooperative School owned by DUFE and the University of Surrey. It was established in 2007, as approved by the Chinese Ministry of Education. SII currently has over 1400 students enrolled in business and tourism management and accounting and finance programmes.

Job Salary & Benefits

The salary range is £53,354 to £63,674 per annum with 5% annual bonus, tax free (the University will pay all Chinese income tax on behalf of the employee) plus relocation flights and assistance, accommodation allowance, travel allowance and medical insurance. Generous USS pension scheme, 30 days holiday plus public holidays observed in China.
