Duties and Responsibilities:
The Centre for Languages & International Education (CLIE) at UCL is looking to appoint a number of well-qualified and experienced Associate Lecturers (teaching) in English for Academic Purposes for our fully online 11-, 9- and 7-week Pre-sessional courses. Associate Lecturers provide up to 21 contact hours per week, which includes virtual teaching and tutorials and actively facilitating student engagement in online learning.

They will implement the syllabus by providing quality online instruction of the language, knowledge, skills and educational values required for study in higher education, assessing student progress and attainment in these areas, and promoting and directing personal learning and research through tutorials.

Associate Lecturers will attend virtual weekly team meetings, fully participate in standardisation and moderation processes, marking assessments, and undertake all associated administrative duties.

Technical requirements:
Please note that in order to teach on the online CLIE Pre-sessional course you will require access to the following equipment:
– a modern laptop or desktop computer in good working order,
– 50GB free HD space, and an internet connection; recommended minimum specs:
– 1.5GHz, 4GB RAM;
– a headset (strongly recommended) or headphones and a microphone;
– a webcam;
– a fast internet connection (10 Mbps minimum);

Course dates:
Course dates include a five-day online induction (Wednesday – Tuesday) and an additional week at the end of the course to complete reports and administrative tasks. For this reason, the dates extend 1.5 weeks longer than the course length for students.

11-week course: 2 June – 27 August 2021
9-week course: 16 June – 27 August 2021
7-week course: 30 June – 27 August 2021

Due to the intense, complex nature of the courses, applicants must be available for the entire duration of the course. Contracts are offered on a fixed term basis for the dates given above.

Teaching timetable:
Successful candidates should be available from 08:30-16:30 BST from Monday to Friday, although some teaching timetables may be scheduled later than this.

Key Requirements:
Successful candidates will have the DELTA or equivalent recognised teaching qualification and a Master’s degree, preferably in Applied Linguistics/ELT. They will have experience of teaching English for Academic Purposes, ideally on a UK Pre-sessional course, and of providing academic and pastoral support to students.

Successful candidates will have outstanding teaching skills and will be able to demonstrate how they have adapted their teaching style to the online environment. They will be equipped to deal with teaching on an intensive course, having the ability to plan, manage preparation and marking time effectively, and balance competing pressures. They will be a good team player and collegiate in approach.
