Job Details

Queen Mary University of London’s (QMUL) Joint Programme (JP) in Material Science and Engineering, delivered in partnership with Northwestern Polytechnic University (NPU) in China’s Shaanxi Province, draws on the academic expertise of both institutions and on the strengths of two distinct educational cultures.

The programme, which is taught entirely in English and leads to the award of both a QMUL BEng and a BEng in Materials Science from NPU, is a collaboration between QMUL’s Schools of Engineering and Material Sciences (SEMS) and Languages, Linguistics and Film (SLLF). The programme makes an important contribution to Queen Mary’s international recruitment strategy. The post-holder will prepare and teach the English Language & Study Skills (ELSS) module and the Personal Development Planning (PDP) modules, and will ensure their high quality and efficient running. In addition, the post-holder will carry out student assessment and co-operate with, and supervise, other teaching staff as may be required. The post-holder will make a contribution to the long-term development of the modules to ensure that they meet QA standards.

The successful candidate will have recognised qualifications in English language teaching (level 7) or a related field; experience of teaching EAP/EAL in a higher education environment; and awareness of the cultural differences among learners. Experience of working with Chinese students and/or of teaching EAL to monolingual classes is desirable. The successful candidate will be expected to teach an average of 18 hours per week.

Job Salary & Benefits

The post is full time for a fixed term of 3 years starting on 1st August 2017. The salary range will be £36,064 – £38,062 (depending on experience) per annum. Benefits include 30 days’ annual leave. The post may be available under Secondment arrangements.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK and in China in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
