Job Details

The Institute of Ismaili Studies in London (https://www.iis.ac.uk/) is looking for freelance tutors to help deliver online preparatory modules in academic literacies, including academic English. The modules will form part of our Postgraduate Preparatory Programme (PGPP) for applicants in priority countries (Afghanistan, Syria, Iran, Tajikistan, Russia) who need to improve their level of academic English as well as an orientation to the requirements of Master’s study in the UK. Module lengths are typically 20-30 hours over 6 -8 weeks. PGPP students are preparing to apply for one of the Institute’s Masters courses, STEP (Secondary Teacher Education Programme) and GPISH (Graduate Programme in Islamic Studies and Humanities).

PGPP components include core academic English and IELTS preparation courses, as well as more specialist modules to promote critical thinking, the habit of extended and reflective reading, and the ability to incorporate reading into writing.

Expected tutor profile: extensive experience in teaching English for Academic Purposes at postgraduate level (pre-sessional / insessional teaching ideal); a Masters and / or Diploma in ELT or related field, preferably with a study component in EAP; skills in delivering classes via Zoom; flexibility and resilience to manage communication with students in remote areas where connectivity can be an issue.

Job Salary & Benefits

Remuneration rate for PGPP tutors: £35 per teaching hour. The amount of teaching can be negotiated to suit tutor availability.
