Job Details

The University of York International Pathway College (IPC) has some exciting teaching opportunities in 2020 and seeks to appoint a number of English Language Teaching Tutors to deliver its growing Pre-sessional Programmes. Your responsibilities will include teaching approximately 20 hours per week, conducting academic tutorials, giving feedback to students, marking assessments to tight deadlines.

Teaching Facilities
The IPC is located in the newly built Piazza building on the University campus. This impressive building houses a range of seminar rooms with interactive digital screens, a restaurant, coffee bar, and unique student spaces. Student Support is also based in the building; this team offer a range of support services to students and regularly liaise with teaching staff to ensure students enjoy their time with us.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications needed
• Undergraduate degree or equivalent
• Relevant level 5 teaching qualification e.g. Cambridge ESOL CELTA, Trinity Cert TESOL or PGCE in English/modern languages with ELT/TESOL subsidiary
• Knowledge of ELT within the context of English for Academic Purposes and Higher Education
• Confidence in using technology enhanced learning
• Awareness of assessment techniques for writing and speaking skills, and providing effective feedback
• Ability to deliver teaching sessions, and contribute to team-taught course units
• Ability to mark written work, presentations, projects, and examinations with reference to language and study skills, and provide appropriate feedback to students
• Able to supervise student work, provide advice on study skills, and assist with learning problems
• Capable to take on specific administrative activities, paying due regard to detail and timekeeping
• Experience in a relevant area of English Language Teaching including some experience of English for Academic Purposes
• Experience in teaching international students from different cultural and language backgrounds, and familiarity with associated challenges and opportunities

Pre-sessional Programme Dates
20-week Pre-sessional – Monday 27 April to Friday 18 September 2020
Tutor induction: Monday 20 April to Friday 24 April 2020
15-week Pre-sessional – Monday 8 June to Friday 18 September 2020
Tutor induction: Monday 1 June to Friday 5 June 2020
10-week Pre-sessional – Monday 13 July to Friday 18 September 2020
Tutor induction: Monday 6 July to Friday 10 July 2020
5-week Pre-sessional – Monday 17 August to Friday 18 September 2020
Tutor induction: Wednesday 12 August to Friday 14 August 2020

Job Salary & Benefits

£25,941 – £31,866 (pro rata) + accommodation allowance and end of contract completion payment.

Accommodation
There will be an accommodation allowance of £1,200 (gross) per month for tutors whose permanent residence is more than 25 miles away. Tutors who are delivering the 10-week and 5-week pre-sessionals may be able to book university accommodation at university rates.

Completion Payment
There is an additional payment of 10% of the salary per week payable to tutors for completing their full contract length. This will be paid in October 2020, providing terms and conditions of the contract are met.

The York Sports Village is located a short walk from the Piazza building, and great short-term membership deals are available for Pre-Sessional tutors.

Pool bikes are available to use whilst you are working at the University.
