About BALEAP

BALEAP is a registered charity whose vision is to further the development of EAP.  We represent an international community working in a variety of contexts.

BALEAP has a rich history, beginning in 1972 with the formation of SELMOUS (Special English Language Materials for Overseas University Students), reflecting the early emergence of English for Academic Purposes (EAP) as a distinct discipline. As EAP continued to grow in response to the internationalisation of higher education, we became The British Association of Lecturers in English for Academic Purposes in 1989.

BALEAP supports the professional development of those involved in learning, teaching, scholarship and research in English for Academic Purposes (EAP). Our work is built on four core values: collaboration, development, inclusivity, and professionalism.
