Mentoring

Mentors are experienced EAP practitioners who support your accreditation journey. They can:
  • Clarify the TEAP criteria
  • Help you reflect on your practice
  • Review your RAPP drafts
  • Support with evidence collection

Mentoring takes place over four flexible stages via email or online meetings. Mentors do not assess your work, but guide you through the process.

A mentor could be someone from your own institution. If there's no local mentor available, and you would like support in finding a suitable mentor, please email both

 and

Please include the pathway you intend to work towards to help speed up the allocation process. If you are allocated a mentor through the TEAP scheme rather than within your own institution, please be aware that there is a cost attached.  You can see the costs in this document.

Observations

Observations are a key part of your TEAP portfolio. You’ll need:
  • At least two observation write ups
    • One must be by a BALEAP-trained observer
    • The other can be by a colleague or line manager
  • Observations should demonstrate your EAP teaching competence
  • Observations must be within the past 3 years

Types of observation

Observations can include live, recorded* observations, and can be lessons taught online or face to face. There are supporting documents available in the handbook, including a suggested observation form. You do not have to use this specific form, but the observation must be TEAP-informed in some way.

*We will also accept one blind observation, but please discuss this with your mentor or the TEAP Officer before submitting it as evidence.
