Research Training Event Series (ResTES)

The Research Training Event Series (ResTES) is a dynamic initiative designed to support and strengthen research and publication skills across the BALEAP membership. Whether you're just starting out or already well-published, ResTES offers targeted opportunities to build capacity, develop confidence, and grow your scholarly network.

Each ResTES package includes:

  • A synchronous event - such as a talk, colloquium, or workshop - led by experienced researchers and practitioners.
  • An accompanying resource pack featuring session recordings, power-point slides used during the event, and recommended readings, all designed to support ongoing engagement with the content and facilitate independent exploration.

The series is built to inspire, equip, and connect researchers at all stages, providing independent learning materials alongside live interaction. Our goal is to foster a collaborative, supportive research culture across different institutions and contexts.

ResTES draws on a vibrant mix of volunteer and invited speakers, showcasing a range of expertise, and encouraging diverse perspectives within EAP scholarship. We welcome expressions of interest to organise a ResTES or suggest new topics and themes.

Critical Friend Network

The Critical Friend Network (CFN) offers a supportive space for BALEAP colleagues engaged in research and scholarship in English for Academic Purposes (EAP). Whether you’re seeking constructive feedback on your project or willing to offer guidance as a critical friend, the CFN is here to connect you with peers and foster collaborative development.

The CFN is designed for:

  • Researchers seeking a critical friend to provide peer feedback, encouragement, and critical insights on scholarship projects (excluding projects submitted for degree study or beyond EAP).
  • Colleagues volunteering as critical friends, offering their experience, feedback, and support to fellow researchers.
    How it works:

Sign up to request a critical friend or to offer your support. We will pair colleagues based on project needs and availability. While we aim to match expertise where possible, the emphasis is on peer review, constructive dialogue, and maintaining momentum in research.

The network is built on ethics, trust, and confidentiality. Critical friends provide honest, respectful feedback, while supported colleagues acknowledge their input appropriately.

Whether you're looking for a fresh perspective or keen to help others advance their scholarship, the CFN offers a meaningful way to engage with the BALEAP research community.
