Leading in EAP
Minimum commitment is 2 full-day ‘in-person’ sessions on campus (course start and finish days) and 6 x 2-hour online sessions. Extra interactions can be negotiated and agreed by course participants.
‘Leading in EAP’: a flexible and highly collaborative course for experienced EAP
practitioners in demanding leadership roles who are too busy for full-time study, but who
would value the structure, motivation and peer networking opportunities the course
provides.
Objectives: The course aims to:
- increase your impact as a leader
- provide you with new perspectives and research-informed strategies for leadership
- inform your practice with theory
- provide you with a network of deep connections with other leaders across BALEAP
How it works: The course operates in four phases, corresponding to the four areas of the
BALEAP TEAP Senior Fellow criteria (planning & design, teaching & learning, assessment &
feedback, and scholarship &development). In each phase you will experience an input
session which provides a map of relevant theory, areas for exploration, and a broad range of
resources and readings. You will work with colleagues in personalised ‘constructive alignment’
(Biggs, 1999) and pursue your learning together. You will design artefacts of your choice
which enable application of your learning directly to your professional contexts.

University of Edinburgh
The Centre for Open Learning at the University of Edinburgh is now offering a one-week intensive Teaching English for Academic Purposes (TEAP) course for EAP practitioners. This in-person course is aimed at those who already have some experience of teaching EAP in a Higher Education context but are keen to learn more and consolidate their knowledge.
Taught by the Centre’s experienced EAP practitioners, the course offers participants space to learn more about the EAP knowledge base as well as opportunities to consider how this applies to their own teaching context. The course aligns with the four areas of practice in the BALEAP Accreditation criteria: planning and design; teaching and learning; assessment and feedback; and scholarship and development, allowing participants to reflect on, and direct, their own professional development.
