Job Details

The Skills Centre at the University of Bath seeks to appoint well-qualified and experienced tutors of English for Academic Purposes for its summer pre-sessional English courses for international postgraduate students.

Typically our students progress onto postgraduate programmes in the Faculties of Engineering & Design, Humanities & Social Sciences and Science, or School of Management. Working with our students is rewarding, challenging and, we believe, professionally developmental.

We are looking for teachers with the following qualifications and experience:
• A first degree
• A postgraduate degree or diploma-level teaching qualification related to English language teaching, for example an MA in Applied Linguistics, the DELTA or the Trinity Diploma in TESOL
• Proven knowledge and experience of teaching English for Academic Purposes in a higher education context.

We also particularly look for:
• Experience of teaching on university pre-sessional English courses
• Excellent communication and team-working skills
• Enthusiasm and commitment!

You will teach up to 20 hours per week, conduct tutorials, attend staff meetings and standardisation sessions, mark student work, assess student progress, carry out other administrative duties related to teaching and report to the appropriate Course Leader to ensure that the course runs smoothly and is of high quality. Comprehensive teaching materials are provided for you to adapt as necessary to the needs of your classes.

Course Dates (including induction):
Pre-sessional 6 week: 5 August 2018 – 13 September 2019
Pre-sessional 11 week: 1 July – 13 September 2019

Please specify on your application form your availability and your first and second preference of course (6 or 11 weeks). We prefer to interview in person but we understand many of our potential teachers are working abroad; please tell us if Skype is the only possibility for you. You are expected to be available for the full length of the induction and the course and there is no opportunity to take leave at any time during the course.
