Duties and Responsibilities:
The UCL Institute of Education Academic Writing Centre (AWC) is looking to appoint a number of well-qualified and experienced Teaching Fellows in English for Academic Purposes for our 12, 8 or 6-week courses on our Preparation for Academic Studies in Higher Education (PASHE) programme.
Teaching Fellows provide up to 21 hours of teaching per week, which includes classroom teaching, tutorials and other academic activities. They will implement the PASHE syllabus, addressing the Programme Learning Outcomes, to prepare students for postgraduate study on UCL Institute of Education’s masters and doctoral programmes, assessing student progress and attainment, as well as promoting and directing personal and independent learning through one-to-one tutorials.

 

Course dates:

12-week course: 8 June – 8 September 2017
8-week course: 6 July – 8 September 2017
6-week course: 20 July – 8 September 2017
The first two days (detailed above) are a paid induction. Owing to the intense, complex nature of the courses, applicants should be available for the entire duration of the course (12, 8 or 6 weeks). Contracts are offered on a fixed term basis.

 

Key Requirements:
Successful candidates will have TEFL Q status and ideally a master’s degree in Applied Linguistics/TESOL. They will have experience of teaching English for Academic Purposes, preferably in the UK and at postgraduate level, and of providing academic writing and pastoral support to students through tutorials.

Successful candidates will have outstanding teaching skills and the ability to work with students, materials and tasks in the field of Education, engaging with the ideas they present. They will also have strong organisational skills, with the ability to plan and manage preparation and marking time effectively.

With excellent communication and interpersonal skills, they will be able to deal effectively with students and colleagues in a culturally aware and respectful manner.

Job Salary & Benefits

£37,936 – £41,163 per annum
