Job Summary:
Griffith Institute of Language provides English for General Purposes Programmes to international students, along with delivering English for Academic Purposes (EAP), both Pre-Sessional and In-Sessional, across three Centres, Dublin, Cork and Limerick. Plans are under way to introduce a new Programme ‘Pre-Higher Education Foundation Certificate for International Students’ (HEFC) and this Programme will be delivered at Griffith College, Cork. The Programme consists of two Streams, Arts and STEM and will include subject-specific teaching staff, as well as EAP professionals.
As Programme Leader and Senior EAP Teacher you will have responsibility for the co-ordination of the HEFC Programme and will be required to undertake teaching on the EAP module.
The Programme Leader ensures that an excellent care service is provided to all those who interact with GIL, students and staff alike. Job Responsibilities:
Programme Coordination
 Preparation of timetables and classroom scheduling.
 Learner Placement.
 Ongoing communication with Module leaders, ensuring there is no delay in the availability of class notes, sample questions, assignment titles etc.
 Organise learner induction and orientation.
 Hold regular meetings with the Foundation team and assist in the resolution of any problems emerging at an early stage, to ensure the learners have an excellent learning experience.
 Encourage the team to engage with students via forum on Moodle and provide training, where necessary.
 Manage learner feedback and pass on such feedback to the GIL Manager, at regular intervals, as agreed with the GIL Manager prior to the Programme commencing.
 Ensure that module descriptors, course handbooks, programme schedules are kept up-to-date and made available to all involved.
 Inform the Manager of GIL of problems that cannot be resolved by the teaching team / Programme Leader.
 Assist the Foundation team with any external / pastoral issues.
 Assist the Manager of GIL in the recruitmentt and selection of new Teachers/Lecturers on the Foundation Programme, to include subject teaching/lecturing staff.
 Manage a team of Teachers/Lecturers, ensuring to the best ability, that Teachers are effectively delivering a high quality HEFC Programme.
 Arrange a teaching observation schedule and observe the teaching team, offering critical and meaningful feedback.
 Create regular CPD sessions for EAP Teachers.
 Ensure that teaching administration tasks are carried out, as expected.
 Teach on the EAP module of the HEFC Programme to a maximum of 18 hours per week.
 Lead the EAP provision, including supporting and guiding EAP teaching staff.

 Keep up-to-date with EAP trends and activity.
 Organising examination board meetings
Curriculum Development
 With the Manager of GIL, ensure that course content is relevant and of high quality. Develop Curriculum material, when required.
 Assist the GIL Manager in EAP Pre-Sessional and In-Sessional Curriculum Development, aimed towards applying for BALEAP accreditation. This provision may run across each centre, Cork, Dublin and Limerick.
 Offer guidance to the GIL teams, regarding appropriate EAP provision. This will involve occasional visits to Griffith College Dublin.
Daily Administration & Student Relations
 Fulfil daily administrative tasks that allow for the smooth running of the HEFC Programme
 Arrange teaching cover, when necessary.
 Fulfil regular administrative tasks associated with the requirements of external accreditation bodies such as QQI.
 Assisting students with applications to Higher education institutions.
 Organising programme board meetings and ensuring that decisions are carried out
 Assist students in the election of Class Representatives and ensure that Class Rep meetings are regularly scheduled, according to the Programme Schedule for such meetings.
 Regular interaction with class.
 Assist learners with academic and/or pastoral care issues. Minimum Education/ Experience Requirements:
 A commitment to the teaching of EAP.
 A minimum of 5 years EAP teaching experience within Foundation, Undergraduate and Postgraduate required.
 A minimum of 2 years of EAP Course Directing.
 Experience of teaching EAP in a University setting within the UK, therefore bringing knowledge of EAP models that have developed over time and of which have been found to produce effective and required results for learners.
 Possess a minimum level 9 (Masters) qualification in English Language teaching, or equivalent.
 Preferably hold a Cambridge DELTA qualification.
 Experience of Curriculum Development.
 Be highly organised with meticulous attention to detail.
 Have excellent interpersonal skills.
 Have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
 Be committed to educational quality and customer service.
 Must be legally entitled to work full time in Ireland for any employer.
