Pre-sessional EAP Teachers, summer 2017
The English Language Centre is seeking well-qualified EAP professionals for our summer Pre-sessional programmes and are recruiting for the following courses:

• 12 week EAP 1 programme: Mon 3 July – Fri 22 Sept 2017
• 8 week EAP 2 programme: Mon 31 July – Fri 22 Sept 2017
• 4 week ‘PARSE’ programme: Tues 29 August – Fri 22 Sept 2017

We offer £728.46 per week (£650 per week plus 12.07% holiday pay). Free self-catering accommodation can be arranged on request.

Our teachers deliver approximately 22 contact hours with 11 hours preparation and marking, and 2 hours teachers’ meetings per week. EAP1 and 2 teachers attend a 3-day staff orientation, and PARSE teachers attend a 4-day staff orientation which is paid pro rata at the weekly rate above:
• 12 week EAP1: Wed 28 June – Fri 30 June
• 8 week EAP2: Wed 26 July – Fri 28 July
• 4 week PARSE programme: Tues 22 August – Fri 25 August

Responsibilities
As a teacher on one of our summer Pre-sessional programmes, you will deliver academic language and literacy classes to postgraduate and/or undergraduate students who have been conditionally accepted onto degree programmes at Durham University. Our courses are intensive and aim to induct and socialise students into the practices and expectations of higher-level study in English at the University. We organise the courses into discipline-specific streams (Law, MSc Business, MBA, Social Sciences, TESOL, Translation Studies, Science and Engineering) and you will be allocated to a particular stream. All teaching materials are provided.

Key Responsibilities:
• prepare and deliver EAP classes using the materials provided
• engage with the discipline specific content
• give timely, detailed feedback on students’ spoken and written work
• attend a weekly staff meeting and any teacher development sessions
• maintain accurate records of work and complete other administrative tasks as required

Person Specification
Essential:
• MA in Applied Linguistics / TESOL / TEAP (or equivalent) and/or RSA DELTA (or equivalent)
• RSA CELTA (or equivalent)
• good undergraduate degree (or equivalent)
• a minimum of 2 years relevant teaching experience
• expert speaker level of English. For non-native speaker teachers this means a minimum IELTS 8.0 or equivalent in all skill areas
• awareness of a range of EFL teaching methodologies and the ability to exploit these appropriately in an EAP context
• awareness of academic language and conventions and how they may differ across the University
• good interpersonal, team working and communication skills
• willingness to engage in peer and evaluative observations and other professional development activities
• ability to work under pressure

Desirable:
• experience of teaching EAP in the UK in a Higher Education context (eg Pre-sessional courses)
• experience of teaching discipline-specific EAP
• awareness of the BALEAP Competency Framework for Teachers of EAP (CFTEAP) and the framework’s relevance to classroom practice. We also welcome applications from teachers working towards the BALEAP TEAP CPD accreditation
