Job Details

We seek around 34 tutors for three programme intakes in 2022. Contract start dates would be 9 May, 6 June or 4 July, and would all end on 24 August.

We are looking to recruit experienced and committed English for Academic Purposes (EAP) tutors to teach on our redesigned summer 2022 Pre-sessional English programmes. The Pre-sessional English programmes prepare students for entry to their degree programme through development of academic language and skills. We are seeking individuals who can deliver high quality teaching either on-campus or online and can facilitate an excellent student experience on the programme.

Our BALEAP accredited pre-sessional programmes develop students’ language and study competence to enable them to perform well on their chosen degree programmes. These programmes have recently been revamped to ensure that they meet the learning needs of our international students as they transition from their previous academic context into their chosen Heriot-Watt programme.

The Heriot-Watt Pre-sessional programme comprises four modules of between 4 and 6 weeks in length. The number of modules students are required to take is determined by the students’ language level. Modules 1 to 3 are designed to develop the students’ Academic English and study skills, while module 4 focuses on developing students’ understanding of Research and Scholarship in relation to English-medium tertiary studies.

In 2022, the programmes will be offered online or on-campus; students can choose to study wholly online or in a blended on-campus mode. We are seeking motivated, independent individuals who can deliver high quality teaching either on-campus or online and can facilitate an excellent student experience on the programme.

Applicants should hold a good first degree and a recognised TEFL qualification (e.g. CELTA, CertTrinity TESOL) and have a minimum experience of two programmes teaching university level students. Applicants with a TEAP qualification, a DELTA and/or a Postgraduate degree in Applied Linguistics/TESOL are particularly encouraged to apply. Experience of teaching on EAP/pre-sessional courses, preferably in a UK university context, is also desirable.

Please note that we can only consider applications from tutors who already have eligibility to work in the UK and will be based in the UK for the duration of the programme.
