Applications are invited for positions in the Language Centre (LC) at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University for an August 2017 start. The LC provides English language training and study skills tuition for all students at the university. Successful applicants should be educated to Master’s degree level, preferably in Applied Linguistics / TESOL or equivalent and hold a professional teaching qualification such as the DELTA. Teaching experience in a Higher Education environment and/or at foundation level would be a distinct advantage. Candidates should be able to demonstrate an interest in areas such as English for Academic Purposes, academic literacies, or assessment, syllabus and materials design.
Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) is a unique collaborative institution, the first and currently the only university in China to offer both UK and Chinese accredited undergraduate degrees. Formed in 2006, the first cohort of students graduated in August 2010. The university now has over 10,000 registered undergraduate and postgraduate students. The LC works with academic departments to provide credit bearing English language modules to students in their first two years of study, with continuing support offered in years 3 and 4, as well as to postgraduates. There are currently more than 160 staff in the LC, which has grown rapidly to become one of the most significant university-level language centres globally.
XJTLU is located in the Higher Education Town of Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP), 80km from Shanghai and connected by high speed rail and road links. SIP is a major growth zone, including operations run by nearly one-fifth of the Fortune 500 top global companies. It has experienced economic growth rates of over 30% for more than a decade. The broader Suzhou area encompasses the spirit of both old and new in China, with the historic old town a major World Heritage Site. Greater Suzhou is now the fourth largest concentration of economic activity in China in terms of GDP, and SIP offers a high quality of life.
The salary range for the positions is 15,652 – 31,622 RMB/month depending on qualifications and experience, with higher salary levels available through internal promotion. In addition, members of academic staff are entitled to accommodation and travel allowances, medical insurance, and relocation expenses.
