Job Details

The University of York International Pathway College (IPC) seeks to appoint an English Language Teaching professional to act, in the first instance, as co-ordinator for the Language and Study Skills modules within our Science Foundation Programmes. Initially reporting to the Science Programme Leader, with whom you will cooperate in planning programme content and organisation, you will also work closely with programme tutors to ensure effective course delivery. Your responsibilities will include materials and assessment development, coordinating teams of tutors, and the setting and marking of assignments, in addition to teaching classes and conducting tutorials. You will also be expected to contribute to other courses within the IPC, such as the Pre-Masters.

Programme Information:

The International Pathway College offers 3 different Science Foundation programmes designed to prepare students for Undergraduate study at York University. Our students come from around the world and study on either a two or three-term course studying language and study skills alongside content modules in an area they intend to progress onto. The programmes have been recently redeveloped to place a larger focus on integrating the Science and Language content.

Qualifications:

You will have a relevant Teaching Diploma, e.g. Cambridge ESOL DELTA, Trinity Dip TESOL or a PGCE with post 16 ELT specialism and an Undergraduate degree or equivalent. As you will be working with students who are learning science, an undergraduate (or higher) qualification in science would be useful.

This knowledge could have come from having taught on previous STEM language courses or from your experience of general ELT together with your STEM academic background. You will have an understanding of approaches to assessment and evaluation as well as knowledge of the principles and practice of implementing and developing technology enhanced learning. You will have experience of supporting others in their teaching and demonstrate excellent team working abilities. You will have the ability to supervise the work of students, provide advice on study skills and assist with learning problems. You will need to be able to demonstrate a proven ability in syllabus and materials development in ELT and in assessment design. You will also have the ability to set and mark assessments and provide appropriate feedback to students and the ability to plan and deliver learning in a virtual or electronic environment.
