The role
Please have a good look at our website to get a feel for what we do and how we do it. The Centre for Academic Language and Development at the University of Bristol has grown rapidly over the last few years, now comprising a team of around 100 members of staff. As our teaching team expands, this creates greater need for experienced line managers to join our co-ordination team (currently 12 people including EAP, STEM, Social Sciences, and Arts and Humanities).

As the Centre evolves with the demands of UK Higher Education, the co-ordination role is unlikely to stay exactly the same; hence, an interest in all aspects of the Centre’s provision (and an awareness of this potential) is important. As part of our desire to ensure robust and coherent assessment across our programmes, we are currently seeking to appoint a Co-ordinator with special responsibilities for assessment.

What will you be doing?
In line with the key responsibilities in the job description (attached), in the first instance you will:
• line manage a small number of teaching colleagues (4 or 5);
• teach across a range of the Centre’s provision (including associated tariff for preparation and feedback) for around 360 hours (25-30% of total workload allocation);

With a specialty in assessment you will:
• develop assessment literacy across the Centre (not only with EAP tutors);
• perform the role of Centre Examinations Officer
• perform the role of Academic Integrity Officer and represent the Centre as part of the University –wide Academic Integrity Network
• project manage assessment development across the Centre as needed.

Job Salary & Benefits

£44,706 – £50,296 per annum

Further Information

It’s a given that you are qualified at Masters level and have sufficient experience in educational assessment and project management to persuade our team to follow you. You will be surrounded by extremely able colleagues and will work with a supportive management team. Saying that, it’s likely you will think there’s too much to do, so it’s key that you know from the start that an ability to juggle workload at the same time as helping tutors do the same is vital. You will be working towards a claim for a BALEAP TEAP/HEA Senior fellowship.

We aspire to be a cutting-edge centre that works with all individuals to develop their communication in academic contexts. To do this we work in line with 6 principles: development, reflexivity, transparency, autonomy, collaboration and transferability. If you feel that these principles are a good fit for your own, then we look forward to receiving an application from you detailing how you can contribute to the Centre’s success. In turn, we will work with you to further your development as an EAP practitioner.
