Beyond the Individual: Building Sustainable Networks for In-sessional EAP with Sarah Mattin
19th March 2026 from 12:00 -13:30

Collaboration amongst different departments in an institution is precarious by its nature. It may be difficult to identify the best person to initiate such a relationship, and also difficult to sustain as initial enthusiasm wanes (Tibbets & Chapman, 2023, p.35).
With these challenges in mind, this free interactive session with Sarah Mattin from the University of Reading explores how in-sessional EAP provision can be strengthened through sustainable models of collaboration. Drawing on the development of the Academic Language and Literacy Liaison (ALLL) model at the University of Reading, we’ll consider how replicating existing institutional frameworks, such as the business partner approach, can enhance visibility, increase opportunities for collaboration, and reduce reliance on individual relationships. Participants will be invited to reflect on their own institutional contexts and share strategies for future-proofing collaboration. We’ll also discuss how engagement with wider Teaching & Learning communities can help raise awareness of in-sessional EAP provision among staff and students. The session aims to foster practical exchange and collective problem-solving, offering space to rethink how in-sessional teams can build resilient, responsive networks across their institutions.
