Hosting PIMS and Conferences
PIMs and Conferences are our main events. PIMS are one-day meetings held three times a year in March, June and November.
The BALEAP Conference is held every two years (ending in odd numbers) in April and usually lasts three days.
BALEAP institutional members can host an event.
Please note that BALEAP events do not provide an income generating opportunity for the hosting institution.
What are the benefits of hosting an event?
Hosting an event offers many benefits for the institution, including
- raising the profile of your institution or department/centre
- showcasing your department's expertise in EAP teaching and scholarship.
- expanding professional networks with a wide range of EAP practitioners
- raising the profile of your department/centre within the wider university
- a limited number of free places at the event for the organising team
- influencing the field of EAP through choice of event theme
Hosting an event can bring many benefits for the members of the organising committee, allowing colleagues to develop skills in event organisation, such as
- budgeting for the event
- promoting the event
- managing the technology involved (such as conferencing software, recording equipment, organising presenters' slides)
- communication with various stakeholders, such as attendees, presenters and volunteers, catering and conferencing teams
It also provides opportunities to
- peer review proposals and write-ups
- present their work to the wider community
- network with the EAP community
Events have many benefits for BALEAP and the EAP community. They
- raise income for BALEAP which can be used to fund research and other projects
- allow for the dissemination of research and good practice
- provide opportunities to learn from each other
- provide opportunities for EAP practitioners to share their work and develop their presentation skills
- are an important networking activity
I'm interested in hosting a PIM - what next?
We are currently inviting bids for PIMs in June and November 2027.
Traditionally, PIMs have followed the format of a mini conference, usually with an opening plenary, parallel sessions of approximately 30 minutes, and e.g. a closing panel discussion. However, we welcome variations on this format and ideas for diversifying the structure of the day, providing that these promote the key aims of PIMs, as outlined on the proposal form.
We invite anyone who is interested to complete a bid proposal form. This will help us to ensure that there is a good range of themes/topics and an appropriate geographical range of venues.
If you are interested in hosting a PIM, please use the PIM Bid Proposal form and send it to events@baleap.org
You can find all the information about hosting a PIM in the PIM handbook.
We are not currently inviting Conference Bid Proposals.
